The Rollercoaster of My First Semester
She
gathered up all 14 clubs and all of the ammo and gets ready for the long
journey ahead of her called golf. Golf is a lot like my first semester in
college. There has been ups and downs (mostly downs). On the first couple of
holes, everything goes smoothly and if you do mess up, you still think that you
can make up for it. For the first few days of college, everything seems fine. It
is all smooth sailing for a while. You have have just moved out of the house
and you don’t have your mom to make you do homework.
After the first
holes are finished and the shock that you are on your own is complete, you
start to get into the hard holes and into the middle of your round. This is
when all of the tests start. This is when the sea starts to get rough and the
sea starts to knock the boat off course and also the GPA, but don’t worry
because there is still a lot of time to get back on course.
Around hole seven,
you can almost see the half way point. You are starting to think about the end
of the semester but you don’t want to get too excited because you still have a
long time until the end. So you have to keep on working and to keep staying on
track. Hole eight, you think that you are right on track and that you are
keeping up with your work when pledge week comes around. Pledge week is kind of
like the underworld, because everyone is sleep deprived and everyone is pretty
much dead. Hole nine is always a turning point. It is the half way point and is
all the downhill from this point. Most people would celebrate for being halfway
finished but sadly they didn’t throw us a party or celebrate with us. Instead,
they gave us tests to make sure that we did learned something and to give us a
test just for the heck of it.
Around hole ten,
everything is downhill from here and this could become something bad. You could
start the avalanche of being behind on chemistry lab work and it just keeps building
on each other. After these few holes you can start to see the end of the round
and I can start to see the end of the semester. You start to think of Christmas
break and think that you have finally figured out what going on and how
everything is going until your biology professor turns everything upside down.
Juno oh I mean my biology professor just doesn’t want to see you succeed. You also
find out that your major that you decided that you wanted to study for the next
four years is not really what you want to do.
Then on hole 14, You
start to go through the week and go with the flow. You start to just go through
the days and not really remember what happened and know what you are supposed
to be doing. After this, they decide to let you go home for Thanksgiving and
give you a break. You go home and think that everything is great and that you
will not have to think about college, but it seems to be the main topic for
everyone. When we come back to campus, we will all be excited to see each other
and not so excited to be back for school. Holes sixteen and seventeen are a
breeze and all you are doing is studying for finals.
This is when trick
hole number eighteen comes into play. Eighteen is always a tricky hole and
always causes trouble, but everything is better after this. On eighteen, you
are faced with problems that you haven’t seen since the first week of school
and things that you didn’t think you could have to remember. You can then watch
your golf cart turn into a nymph and then ride off into the sunset and go home
for a month and then start your journey over in another month.
Suuuuuusiiiiieeeee. This paper was LIT and also super creative, although I had a hard time focusing on it because you screamed at me the entire time. I know nothing about golf, but I still really enjoyed your paper. I thought it was really interesting how you compared the semester to the different holes. You definitely start off the semester feeling super confident and then it hits you that you really have no idea what's going on. I can't believe we're coming up on hole eighteen next week! Hopefully there won’t be any golf carts turning into nymphs ;)
